What is Trenchless Sewer Repair?

Sewer lines are typically replaced by one of two methods: Trenchless or Trenched.

Trenchless sewer line repair installs new underground pipes without digging long trenches. Pipe Spy uses the trenchless pipe bursting method which breaks and expands the old pipe with a bursting tool and simultaneously replaces it with a new HDPE pipe [learn more about HDPE in our “What is HDPE pipe?” FAQ]. Our trenchless method reduces the disruption to your life and your landscaping, and costs less than open cut sewer replacement.

Trenched, or traditional sewer line pipe replacement requires digging a trench from your house to the curb, or to the sewer main in the street in some cities – see the illustration on our Trenchless Sewer Replacement Services page for your city. Pipe Spy uses the trenchless method whenever possible; some sewers may require the traditional open cut method, or a combination of the two methods.
